With two days left and a pathetic 3% increase in my portfolio I don't think I'll be winning the Infiniti Q45 in the InvestorRally challenge. However, E*Trade has a new investment challenge beginning April 30 and you can win $15,000 and weekly prizes! This one lasts for 6 weeks and even allows limit orders and purchasing on margin. At least it gives me something to do while I mourn FreeRide's "summer hiatus."

Hurry, go spend your points while you can.

Finally! DataSynapse has finally announced their payment structure. It's not as lucrative as I'ved hoped but then it's still something for nothing (UPDATED):

Seems there is a lot of hatred for AllAdvantage out there. Some people didn't realize that my posting yesterday (see below) was an April Fool's joke (just click the links) and instead decided to voice their complaints about AllAdvantage to me. Well, my view is that you can't expect any of these companies to stay around forever or be efficient dispensers of cash and goodies. Almost all will eventually go bankrupt and some may even lie and cheat their users but what have you lost? some of your free time. So there's no point getting angry at any of these companies, just move on to another thing or stop participating if you don't feel your time is worth the trouble.
|
Apr 1 |
This is new: Remember AllAdvantage? Well, it seems a lot of people do and as part of a grassroots campaign being organized by former users of the service they're holding "community ad viewings" to raise money for AllAdvantage. These ad viewings will be held at your local cineplexes, auditoriums and drive-in theatres where everyone will gather to watch banner ads projected on the big screen. Hopefully enough advertising dollars will be generated to bring AllAdvantage back to life. To find out when the next ad viewing will take place in your community click here.

Well the new year is upon us (I know, this is belated) and it's time to have a re-evaluation of what's the best way to get free stuff off the 'net. The days when AllAdvantage paid out generously are gone as are the days when you could go on shopping sprees at Amazon with the gift certificates you earned from Echo and FreeRide. While many programs have cut back, converted to lotteries or ended up on the pages of F'ed Company there are still a few opportunities out there. I've taken a good look at the ones I'm aware of (be sure to tell me if you know of others) and moved them to the top of the list for each of my pages. The best bets now? Spedia still gives you 50 cents USD per hour of surfing, Jaboom! still pays out Amazon gift certificates for rating songs and MyPoints (though more difficult to earn now) still doles out gift certificates to offline retailers.
More MyPoints earning opportunities are disappearing. Now the monthly Omaha Steaks link has expired so I've removed it from the MyPoints links page. If you know of any new ways to earn MyPoints please e-mail me!
Get a free t-shirt from Digex.

I'm sure everyone is sick of the fireworks intro screen. It has been removed to keep us all sane.
Want to order stuff from the States? Try USABox.com. You get a virtual mailing address in Florida (not a PO Box) where you can receive mail, packages and such. They'll tell you what has arrived and you decide when to get it shipped to you here in Canada. It looks cheaper than Borderfree if you plan to get multiple packages. I might try this out instead of harassing my American relatives all the time.

Happy New Year! Welcome to the "real" new millennium.
Well, they did it. Echo has discontinued their rewards program and converted over to a sweepstakes thing. Now you can only redeem your points for entries into draws for money or electronics. This effectively eliminates Canadians since they won't be sending those prizes over to Canada even if you did win. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
More bad news...just noticed over at Trocamania that they don't give out $10 Amazon or Buy.com gift certificates anymore. Lowest denomination for Amazon is now $50 for 4167 Trocas and for Buy.com it's $20 for 1667 Trocas. It'll take forever to earn that many Trocas unless you buy one of those overpriced items off CyberRebate through them.
